When Words Don't Come

Heyo,

Tip of the tongue awkwardness, people try to fill in the blank, guessing at you next thought, but it is not quite right.

Meeting someone (or multiple someones) new and find it hard to connect in continued conversation.

Talking with an old friend, but still can't share the heavy burden.

Basically when words don't come.

Today is New Year's. HAPPY BIRTHDAY WORLD. 2015 is a mile stone. Well this holiday season and pretty much everyday of my life I stumble into being social. Thus also I find myself in all three of the above situations regularly, but the last one is still the most novel. How do I put into words something that is that hard? What does it say about me when I can't? Sometimes nothing, but is that the right thing either? Here are some tips that I have found help with at least the first two situations, but apply to others as well.

Be prepared

If there is one thing that I have found that helps is thinking about what I am going to say the night before I see people or in the car on the way to an event

Be okay with companionable silence

Stay calm, no one is going to die (hopefully) because you did not say anything. Also no one want to be a person who can't/won't shut up. So be okay with the quiet and the silence won't stifle you. In fact if it doesn't bug you, words may come a bit faster.

Just say it

The number one thing for saying hard things, is just say it. Use your words, it may not be movie magic, but that is okay. If you don't even attempt communication, you fail. Hard things grow harder as you wait and nothing makes bad news, happy. So just say it.

Practice makes...better

Not perfect, nobody's perfect, but it does help to never mind the awkward sometimes and throw yourself in, you are never going to get better hiding from conversations.

Hope this helps, please share if you have other wording finding tips.
